B Corp™

Established in 2006 in the United States, the B Corp certification is awarded to commercial companies that meet specific social and environmental requirements, in line with the necessary standards of governance and transparency. The philosophy behind this certification is perfectly encapsulated in its slogan: “Don’t aim to be the best company in the world, but the best for the world.”

The certification is managed by an American NGO called B Lab. The label is obtained by completing a rigorous online questionnaire (the B Impact Assessment), which is entirely free and accessible to as many people as possible. It comprises around 200 questions on governance, employees, accounting, environmental impacts and the company’s business model. To qualify, the company must achieve a minimum score of 80 points and is re-assessed every two years.

Since its inception, B Corp has quickly become the most comprehensive certification in the field of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and appears to be perfectly aligned with consumers’ expectations regarding corporate behaviour.
