Vegetable Leather
There is a type of leather called “vegetable” that is, perhaps surprisingly, not made from plants, sap or bark, but rather normal leather subject to a vegetable-based tanning process. It seems like a misnomer, and many would rather call it “organic”, “environmental” or “green” leather, as “vegetable” leather can really be misleading. It is still animal leather, just one that has been tanned with plant-based substances, unlike mineral tanning which uses chromium salts, i.e., highly-polluting heavy metals. Its manufacturing process is therefore much more natural and environmentally friendly.
