EN71-1-2-3
EN-71 is a set of European product safety standards that applies to testing all types of toys sold in the European Union. EN-71 is part of the European Conformity Directive.
Toys intended for children under 3 years of age must comply with European Directive 2009/48/EC. To comply with this directive, standards have been created: EN71-1/2/3.
- The EN71-1 standard governs the mechanical strength characteristics of toys when subjected to standardised stresses (falling, weight application, twisting, etc.).
- The EN71-2 standard governs the flammability of toys: it determines how quickly a flame spreads when it comes into contact with the toy, as children must have time to move away from the item.
- The EN71-3 standard governs the permitted chemical composition of toys: no harmful substances must be able to migrate into contact with children when they put the toy in their mouths.
