Cashmere is a natural animal material derived from cashmere goats. It is highly coveted for its marvellous properties, but the production itself poses a number of problems. One way to reduce its impact is to recycle it!
How does it work? Recycled cashmere comes from pre- and post-consumer waste. Worn garments and factory waste are collected and carefully sorted according to color, then reduced to fibers through a carding process. The raw material is then re-spun into an already-colored product, reducing the need for dyeing, which can be a harmful step for the environment, as it requires a lot of water and chemicals.
Recycled cashmere retains the properties of cashmere while avoiding overproduction and drastically reducing its environmental impact.
