FDA

Food quality testing.
The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for protecting US public health by ensuring the safety and efficacy of human and veterinary medicinal products, biologics and medical devices. It also ensures the security of food supplies, cosmetics and radiation-emitting products.

The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act stipulates that any product containing new substances must be tested by companies before being submitted to the FDA for review, which will then decide whether or not to market it. The agency does not conduct toxicology studies; it reviews data provided by applicants.
