LFGB

Food quality testing.
The LFGB standard ensures that products coming into contact with food are compliant. This standard is mainly required for Germany.

LFGB is based on European directives 76/769/EEC and EC 1935/2004. EC 1935/2004 identifies basic documentation and testing requirements, and EC Directive 76/769/EEC defines restrictions on the marketing and use of certain hazardous substances.

The LFBG (Lebensmittel-, Bedarfsgegenstände-und Futtermittelgesetzbuch, or “Food, Consumer Goods and Animal Feed Code”) is sometimes considered the European equivalent of the FDA. This isn’t entirely true. The LFGB is the German text derived from European law, as managed by the Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung (BfR) (German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment). BfR recommendations for materials coming into contact with food are among the most stringent in the EU.
