The Portable Document Format, commonly abbreviated as a PDF, is a page description language introduced by Adobe Systems in 1992 which became an ISO standard in 2008. The specificity of the PDF is its ability to preserve the layout of a document – character fonts, images, graphic objects, etc. – as defined by its author, regardless of the software, operating system or computer used to print or view it.
